On this trip to Axum, Harego and Karen were joined by Harego’s daughter Rebecca and Karen’s daughter Antonia, Kelly Lampard (working on another Ethiopian Aid project) and Natashi Sagi.
The main aim of this trip was to check up on all projects currently underway in Axum. Primarily the sponsorship program as well as the “After school” program. We visited with the existing sponsored children, and interviewed more for future sponsorship. Harego will be sponsoring 12 students from donations raised in Sweden.
We are very pleased with the overall success of both of these programs. The kids at the orphanage are really enjoying the recreation and education programs which are run once a week for them by teachers from the Abreha School. The older girls have become quite skilled at hairdressing, and this knowledge will give them an option for possible future employment.
Met with the UN representative in Addis Ababa for possible future support from them.
Met with a representative from “Play Pumps” (www.playpumps.org) to look into having one of their water pumps installed at the school or orphanage. It was decided that it is too expensive to set this up at the present time, but we will keep the idea open for the future.
