We want to share some fantastic news from Axum with all of you!
After years of training and planning, three girls from the orphanage are finally self-sufficient.
For the past three years, Axum-Africa has been financing the beauty salon training for three of the older girls from the orphanage. These girls had to leave the orphanage at the age of 18 and would have had no other options in life than to likely move to the city and live on the street. Now, thanks to the support given by all of you, they are living and working in a small salon of their own. They will make enough in this salon to pay for the rent and to take care of themselves. They will also now provide beauty salon training to the younger girls who are still living at the orphanage.
This is the first such project that we have seem to fruition, and we hope it is not the last! On our next visit to Axum, we will be setting up metal/wood shop as well as tailoring training for some of the boys.
Through local instructors, Axum-Africa has also been providing art, basket-making, music and physical education training for other orphanage children over the past three years.
Thanks for your support of these very worthwhile projects, they really are making a difference!
